The Mars Exploration Program continuously engages with the Mars science community to get their input into future planning activities. These opportunities are listed below and will continue to be updated as planning continues.
Recognizing the continued need for high-resolution surface imaging as well as the finite lifespan of the existing HiRISE camera, the Mars Exploration Program (MEP) is anticipating replacing or supplementing existing assets with imaging capabilities that can be used in support of the robotic and human exploration of Mars. To provide information to the MEP about priority measurements and capabilities of such an imager, a High-Resolution Imager Replacement (HIREP) Measurement Definition Team (MDT) is being convened.
Designed to create an avenue for organized community involvement and participation in planning the human exploration of Mars, and to generate referenceable content relevant to the conduct of science by robotic and human explorers on the surface of Mars.
