NASA’s Planetary Exploration Science Technology Office (PESTO) was created by the Planetary Science Division to recommend non-mission specific, non-nuclear investments in planetary technology; to manage those investments; to coordinate planetary-relevant technology investments across the agency; and to maximize technology infusion into specific missions.

Compilation of information related to Funded Projects, including Report Guidelines, Grant Policy and Compliance and more.

NASA’s robotics technology has allowed us to send robotic orbiters, landers, and rovers ahead of us to study other planets and identify potential signs for life. On the International Space Station, NASA and their partners have used robotic technology extensively, to lorem and ipsum the dolor sit amets and more.

Through an open, competitive solicitation process, we provide grants to universities, corporations, and other institutions to explore new instrument designs and technologies.

If you’re an investigator in need of funding, stay connected for updates on upcoming solicitations. If you are a Planetary science researcher in need of an enabling technology, explore our portfolio or contact us.

To increase the pool of un-conflicted reviewers we are seeking subject matter experts (SMEs) to engage in discussions at a virtual panel meeting or provide external reviews.

To increase the pool of un-conflicted reviewers we are seeking subject matter experts (SMEs) to engage in discussions at a virtual panel meeting or provide external reviews. While a significant time commitment, serving as a reviewer allows one to learn what’s new in the field, get first-hand experience with our review process, and network with colleagues. New researchers including post doctoral fellows and sometimes upper level graduate students are welcome.

The Planetary Exploration Science Technology Office (PESTO) is managed at Glenn Research Center (GRC) as part of the Planetary Science Division (PSD).

PESTO programs fund instruments, components, and spacecraft technology that enable NASA Planetary Science Missions.

PESTO developed a comprehensive Planetary Science Technology Development strategy to outline how we will create widely available advanced capabilities to explore the solar system.

Our projects develop and mature, to high technology readiness levels (TRL 6), innovative technologies for planetary science exploration.

View current news and announcements related to the PESTO Program.

PESTO will hold an alternating year in person Technology Showcase. The Technology Showcase is a forum created by PESTO to facilitate interactions and meetings between Technology Developers, Scientists, and Mission Managers.

Resources specifically curated to help planetary science researchers, whether new to the field or seasoned professionals.
